Country estate De Baest

Project example: Country estate De Baest, Holland

In Noord Brabant in the area where the Grote Beerse and the Kleine Beerse brooks come together, lies the country estate De Baest. This country estate has been there since the Middle Ages. The estate arose as a grubbing and a settlement at a fordable place in the brook. Later it became the country-seat of the bishops of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. This is why it is recognised as an old settlement.

The estate contains 5 farms around the house at De Baest with its annexes and the park. All this is surrounded by fine woodland, varied with meadows and fields. In one word splendid. This estate is taken care for by one and same the family for 300 years.
In the 1980’s Mr. Van de Mortel started the renovation of the house as well as the gardens. In addition he searched for new ways to maintain the estate by finding new sources of income appropriate to its distinguished and historical character.
His touch for perfection and his knowledge of gardens around the world, made that our task mainly consisted in bringing together the wishes and ideas to a harmonious creative structure in which formal and informal environments could be developed. Moreover much attention has been paid to the relation between house and gardens, and between the gardens and the splendid surroundings.
